RWTH Aachen University, UMIC Research Centre, Aachen, Germany

Optimal utilization of radio resources (bandwidth, transmit power) in multi-carrier systems becomes very challenging because of coexistence of various wireless standards within the same frequency band. The proposed demonstrator, implemented in the GNU Radio framework, enables capacity achieving OFDM-based data transmission between two network nodes with optimal rate and power allocation over subcarriers subject to certain system constraints. Furthermore, a highly reconfigurable framework allows for extending the PHY layer functionalities of current wireless standards and offers control and feedback mechanisms for easy reconfiguration of transmission parameters. Hence, the evaluation of different strategies by either simulation or real-time testing is strongly supported.

  Telcordia, Piscataway, New Jersey, USA

Demos show how 3G and 4G LTE networks (macro and femto) are planned, optimized and adapted for interference reduction, and QoS policy such that quality and user experience is improved, network capacity is expanded, and load distribution is balanced.  We will show that the centralized and distributed control architectures are complementary and how a policy-driven approach is desirable. Demo also shows how dynamic pricing can be used to influence usage and be used as a load balance mechanism. The business and technical benefits and the implementation with globally proven software platforms such as Telcordia’s Service Management platform and Online Charging/ PCRF IMS platform will be shown.

  Ubidyne GmbH, Ulm, Germany

Ubidyne’s Antenna Embedded Radio™ (AER) technology is a completely new radio architecture that allows network operators to deploy advanced antenna techniques needed for next generation networks (ex. Transmit Diversity, MIMO, Beam Control, etc.) at lower costs and higher levels of reliability than ever possible before. Ubidyne’s AER system takes inefficient analog circuitry, shrinks it to inexpensive modular digital circuits and attaches those modules directly to the individual antenna radiators. Our micro-radio (M-Radio) architecture makes this possible using low cost semiconductor processes resulting in significant cost savings in network deployment, reduced site acquisition problems and improved coverage and capacity. www.ubidyne.com
